Altinkum, which translated literally as Golden Sand in English is fast
becoming one of the top tourist locations for European People to
purchase properties in Turkey. 90 kilometers away ( 1,5 hours drive
away) from Bodrum International Airport, this resort has grown
directly behind the beach . Altinkum refers to the beach area, whereas
Didim is the name of the actual town. The main beach in Altinkum
(often referred to as First Beach) is a large bay of golden sand with
incredibly shallow waters making it very popular with the locals and
holidaymakers alike and particularly ideal for families. There are
more beaches, on both sides of the main beach fondly referred to as
second and third beach. Water sports are plentiful here so there is
always something to watch or participate in whether you are
adventurous or faint hearted . Altinkum receives a high number of
repeat guests as well as being a sought after destination by Turkish
holidaymakers.

Dolphin Square and most of the town has been renovated with renovating
work still on going , resulting in vast superb improvements around the
town. A new Marina that is currently under construction in Altinkum
and planning to be opened by 2009 will be the biggest in Turkey. Two
golf courses one's construction will start in 2008 are part of these
ongoing improvements. Supermarket chains such as Carrefour, Migros and
Tansaş are located along the main Didyma to Altinkum road making it
easy to self-cater and buy provisions but for those that do not want
to do it themselves, restaurants and cafes are plentiful at reasonable
prices. The hugely popular Saturday Bazaar is also at the top end of
the town where by the old town of Didim and the ruins of Apollo Temple
at Didyma can also be located.

The most impressive single monument on the west coast of Ionia, is the
Temple of Apollo at Didyma. Here, one can see the famous stone relief
Head of Medusa and the ruins of Branchidai , the site of an ancient
temple which has been excavated since 1873.
