No- that's an old wive's tale, and in the age of receipts is not
necessary.

They must have a nervous breakdown when the bill does actually come to
10.

And you wouldn't have a receipt. "If you don't get a receipt, the item
is free" would be a good solution.

No it doesn't.

Quite possible, but I don't use them much for anything else so I don't
know what they're like generally. It's one of the things they use in
their TV ads BTW. I don't know how they compare to the other banks- when
it comes to things like taking a couple of days to register a cheque
deposit, or charging fees, I think most banks are pretty much the same
in the UK.

For me, I'm happy with a bank if I can call them and get through
immediately during business hours, and if their internet banking
services are efficient. The RBS does that all for me, and their level of
service is the reason I've had the same main account number since 1988.
However, I don't use them for foreign ATM withdrawals! :)

Oh, OK. I was just using the rates at http://www.x-rates.com/

I think that most people are happy enough with their banks, providing
they don't incur charges, or have a problem like a lost cheque, etc.
Luckily, it's never happened to me. So far.

True, but that's very easy to do- and I have it set up as a frequent
transaction.

Oh, it wouldn't surprise me. Some banks in the EU already do this- som
French banks IIRC?
