guarantee CCs will be usable for various reasons.

If it's a settlement visa, of course she can. You can work the moment
you arrive in the UK with it, or the moment you're visa is converted
from within the UK (say if you were on a fianc, student, visa etc.) I
don't _think_ you can work with a fianc visa, but this isn't relevant
to the OP.

The paperwork on the French side is the factor unknown to me. As I made
quite clear, our application for my US partner took 2 weeks by post at
the NYC consulate. US applications are generally quick. We could have
done it on the same day, but we didn't want to have to go to NY.

Our experience with the UK consulate in NY, and then subsequently with
immigration at Liverpool when we applied for ILR was very effecient, and
always courteous. Indeed, a woman from the NYC consulate actually called
me in London (where I was at the time) to let me know it had been
approved, because the July 4 holiday was the next day, and that would
delay getting the passports back to my partner in Boston, and she wanted
us to get the 'good news' asap!

Word of advice for people. If you're applying from within the UK, you
don't have to use your local centre. The one in Croydon is the busiest
by far- I know people from the London area who've travelled up to
Solihull (Birmingham) or Liverpool- both of which are not as inundated-
and I imagine offer a less stressful experience.

A residence visa for a spouse allows them to work.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

This argument has come up with regard to euros. I always have euros
(around 50 euro or so) so it's not something I worry about. ATM's are
prevalent in euro-land- there's not a single place I can think of
arriving at where I couldn't find a working ATM.

How much do you reckon you pay in foreign currency charges a year?
