Visa applications (work, residency, tourist everything) from India to
the UK are in many tens of thousands every year- the US applications are
a fraction of that.

You can't use your mobile in any UK immigration centre either- or in the
passport line, for that matter.

That sounds horrible, but remember that the OP's girlfriend is American,
and will likely not be applying in India, so that's not really relevant.
You also gave the advice to get married, without seeming to understand
that the PACS or marriage certificate will just be another document for
UK immigration. It seems to me you're assuming your bad Indian
experience is universal- it certainly isn't.

Yet you said to the OP it would take up to 2 months.

I'm afraid you're going to have to explain how a common currency will cause
that.

And why, for example, the French and the Germans don't seem to share your
views.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

I could have sworn I said 'up to 2 months'...

You've got a good sense of humour, I'll say that.

The Germans didn't vote for the Euro, and it was only the overseas votes
that narrowly got approval for the French vote.

Germans in recent opinion polls would seem to want to rather not have
it, and you could see the French refusal to ratify the European
Constitution as a 'nay' to the Euro too.

Of course, the Euro is here to stay- I'm glad these countries have it.
Very convenient of them. I'd also favour all UK prices being in euros as
well as pounds, as that might force some UK prices down. :)

That's what I swore you said too.
