Hi Everyone,

Some, but fortunately not most, on this news group want to be
nattering nabobs of negativity. Fortunately the real world of
cruising does not agree. As an example, Oceania Cruises floated out
its first newbuild, Marina, at Fincantieris Sestri Ponente shipyard
this morning then surprised attendees by also cutting steel for a
second ship. The newbuild, Riviera, is planned for April 2012
delivery. This is a very exciting time for all of us that believe in
the cruise industry.

You and I both know that these ships were ordered more than five years
ago. That well before this ecomomy went in the toilet so they had to
take possession, I'm sure they'd be more than happy for the bottom
line not to.
You can be as upbeat as you want, after all you've got your livelyhood
at stake in this industry, where the person on the street does not.

You must have missed the news that Carnival Corp just ordered two more
ships for the Princess fleet. One will be delivered in 2013 and the
other a year later.

This just happened last week. Three months ago Carnival also
announced a new build for the Carnival fleet.

Care to take a guess why the cruise lines are starting to ramp up capacity?

Hi Everyone,

We can always be confident that there are those that have no idea of
what is currently going on in the industry spouting off as the above
poster has done often since he recently joined r.t.cruises. BTW, what
is "this ecomomy"? <:+)
FWIW, NCL made a profit for the first time in many years and it was
announced this am that Regent Seven Seas would "will chalk up a record
profit in 2010." The cruise lines are ordering new ships this year
after not ordering hardly any last year. I guess Stu knows more than
the management of the cruise lines. <lol>

Must be due to the incredible state of the economy.

The fact that millions of people are out of work all over the world,
that the US and European economies are in the toilet and that Greece and
England are virtually bankrupt, with most of Europe and the US not far
behind all means that travel agents are going to be seeing a huge
increase in business as people book cruises with the money they used to
use to pay the mortgages on their homes that have been foreclosed on,
with credit cards that now charge a 39% monthly interest rate.
