On the Granduer they had singing waiters but it was very toned down and
our assistant waiter continued serving dessert during the show.

On Carnival, the only areas that were smoky to me, was the

Even the non-smoking section of the casino was smokey and the staff did
nothing to enforce the no smoking area. The lounges that do have
non-smoking sections are so small, that the smoke is very much there in
the non-smoking sections. We enjoy the lounges, listening to music, but
can't do that on Carnival because of the smoke which makes my asthma act
up.

A few weeks ago, they were not charging for ice cream on the Caribbean
Princess, but I know they have charged for ice cream in the past on that
ship, and on the other ships.

Carnival's lunch and dinner buffet offers a nice variety of food, but
their salad bar is not my favorite. At breakfast, they will cook eggs
any way you want them, but they do not have blintzes or a huge variety
of fresh fruit. They do have ruby red grapefruit sections, which are
one of my favorites, so all is forgiven. :-)

Enjoy your Carnival cruise.

I can't eat the grapefruit because of blood pressure meds although I
love it. I didn't find the blintzes in the Mercury buffet until the
last day. I do really wish they had a buffet map, especially since
the two sides were different. It seems designed to make you walk as
much as possible when they have different kinds of ice cream on one
side than they have on the other. I missed the nice cold fruit soups
that HAL does and also we only got one tiny little bread pudding at
lunch in 12 days.

Haven't booked one yet - on the to-do list. The next one for me is
NCL America (because I'm going during summer vacation with my
grandson, and that is the only option for that place and time frame)
and for the two of us is RCCL.

Speaking of eggs, Becca, the Carnival Legend had two omelet/fried
egg stations each breakfast, and each station had 3 skillets for a
total of 6. On the Ryndam, there was precisely one station and it
had one skillet. OTOH, the Ryndam offered a waffle station where
you could get small, fresh, waffles topped with cream and many
fruits. The best part was the Ryndam's Eggs Benedict station.
There, a fellow would toast muffins, top them with poached eggs
and any number of meats or veggies, complete with a great
Hollandaise sauce. They were of restaurant quality, the selection
was terrific and of course, they were fresh.

Having a broken collar bone, and with the bride on a scooter, HAL
is tops still in having helpful people assisting you in the Lido
deck without even being asked. The Legend's Lido staff was great,
no doubt about it, but the Ryndam's was more geared for people
needing assistance.

Coffee was a weak spot, however, Carnival has huge coffee makers
that never seem to run out and are self-serve. HAL's Ryndam,
OTOH, had two coffee makers and without exaggeration, one was
always brewing. I'd say that in the 14 days we were on the ship,
there were always 4-5 people in line for coffee and we'd usually
be told it had run out and to go to the other side of the ship to
see if that coffee maker was OK. The flip side of the coin,
however, was that with Carnival, we would generally have to get up
and refill our own coffee cups, where HAL had people continually
walking around with coffee to refill cups at the tables.

I agree. The fun with the group and cruising with friends is what is
important. The ship is secondary. And besides my it was five years ago
that I was on Carnival. it is time to see what Carnival is like now.
Things don't always stay the same.
