Well, certanly in more and more areas here in the USA. We
switched our telephone servicce from Baby Bell Quest to our cable
provider, Cox.

Electrical power providers needn't supply energy from their own
generating plants; they can purchase it from other plants or
wholesalers, or where convenient make a swap with the your old
provider. Electricity is electricity.

In the UK it is. The actual connection into the mouse
may be either copper or fibre but either way its an
alternate connection to the telecoms provider's local loop.
