Perhaps you've heard of them? Do you believe that the Democratic People's Republic of Korea is a democracy, too? You might want to read a famous book written by a guy named Shirer some time. It was quite clear that the Nazis cynically used "Socialist" in their party's name as a ploy to appeal to the guy in the street, when in fact their party platform was fiercely anti- socialist. -- dgs

In its early days around 1920 the "socialist" meant something, and a lot of Nazi members kept to it after Hitler took over the party, including Ernst Roehm, who kept calling on Hitler to institute socialism. But under Hitler the party became more fascist and the true socialists in the party wound up being purged. There was nothing socialist at all about the Third Reich. Mixi seems to believe labels without engaging his brain. Either that or he's trying to be more clever than he seems to actually be. I am frequently reminded of an old "joke" supposedly used by Abraham Lincoln: First man: If ecall a tail a leg how many legs does a dog have? Second man: Five, of course. First man: Only four. Calling a tail a leg doesn't make it one. ************* DAVE HATUNEN (hatunen(a)cox.net) ************* * Tucson Arizona, out where the cacti grow * * My typos & mispellings are intentional copyright traps *

Hitler also knew where the real money and power was, and cozied up to the big capitalist industrialists of the day. > Mixi seems to believe labels without engaging his brain. Actually, the guy bandying about the term "socialist" with such carefree abandon is the one who uses "Tchiowa" as a handle, but otherwise, um, yeah. -- dgs
