From: Maurice Batey on 8 Aug 2010 06:51 Am about to book flights with EasyJet (Gatwick-Faro, October). Never flown Easyjet before. Got bags to check in. Any advice, e.g.: - Things to avoid - Things to go for - Things to know about ? Thinking of paying for Priority Checkin (as apparently no pre-allocation of seats). -- /\/\aurice (Retired in Surrey) (Replace "nomail.afraid" by "bcs" to reply by email)

Main thing is to check which terminal (I think they fly from both). The gates at North terminal are a *very* long way from checkin. Worth buying the speedyboarding (first in queue) if you have any seating preferences at all, there's also a dedicated (but not necessarily faster!) check-in line. They will be very fussy about weight of checked bags, and size (and qty=1) of carry-on. But the carry-on can be any weight you like. -- Roland Perry

It's been my experience that up to half the plane gets "priority" and you're still at the mercy of whoever decides to deposit their carcass in the seat next to the one you've chosen. Take earplugs or a sound system with very good in-ear phones. Hearos (available from Amazon among others) earplugs are best if you don't want music and I've never found them uncomfortable for prolonged use. Since it's only a short-ish flight, I wouldn't bother with the over- priced in-flight food. I've never had any trouble taking a bananna or two through the check-points and onto the plane Although this doesn't apply since yo have bags to pick up, If you have booked a car, it's worth getting off the plane and through passport control quickly. It can take forever (5 minutes) for the car hire desk to process each booking. The fewer there are in front of you the less waiting around and the sooner you're starting your visit. -- www.thisreallyismyhost.99k.org/page2.php

Agreed - the only useful way to depart Faro seems to be by rental car. Not an Easyjet issue, but watch the rental T&C; the car I hired said no use "off road" and any damage caused offroad is not included in CDW - except the villa I'd hired was down a mile of dirt track. Was that off-road - who can tell? -- Roland Perry |
