This is my first post. I just come here to read the trip reports.
Anyway, I have a question about this mailer from El Cortez I
got last month and I never even been inside that place.
There's the usual free room offer (7 nights, I think) and 2 other
coupons
on the sheet for free food and slot dollars.
Question is do I have to be staying there to use the food or slot
dollar coupons?
I'm going next week but is staying at another place with another
offer of free room, food and slot play. The mailer from El Cortez
doesn't have any restrictions on except to be a slot club member.
Thanks.

You might want to read that offer again; 7 nights sounds like a lot. I
gamble like a drunken sailor there & I've never been comped more than 4
nights. The way the food comps work now is they charge it to the room, but
you don't pay anything because it's comped. So, yes, you need to have a
room there. I don't know what the sheet you got is, so I can't comment on
what those coupons are. Please take another look at it & post a reply.

Are you in CA or another border state w/Nevada? If so, that offer
would make more sense. The ElCo must be really slow on those dates.

Hawaii.
We have no legal gambling out here. But the Boyd group downtown
properties
treats us islanders well with free rooms and food. I think El Cortez
is trying
to break into this market.
Hawaii residents who visit downtown as a whole gamble at their host
hotel
alot during their stay. I don't mean 3-4 hours a day. I mean like 8-14
hours
a day for each day of their stay. Stopping only for sleep, food, and
bathroom breaks.
And maybe a show on the strip and a meal at a fancy restaurant or
buffet.
After doing a show they go right back downtown and start pounding
those machines.
I've seen folks in the casino in wheelchairs with oxygen breathers
pressing buttons.
I've even heard about persons dying with a few months to live going to
the Cal or
MSS as their last wish in life and sometimes passing away while there.
With that kind of loyal following why wouldn't the El Cortez try to
get a piece of
that action.

That would explain it even further. I'd be staying at the California
next week, but Hawaii is in town playing UNLV in football & they're
sold out!
