Once you're 'air side' in Dubai an awful lot of people seem to be carrying an awful lot of cabin baggage and Dubai 'duty free' sells an awful lot of what most people would consider perfectly normal groceries... But Dubai airport is odd. If you're Indian you probably won't have any problems, if you're from the USA you may get problems even if you're completely 'legal'... I've seen a carry on turned out and a roll of masking tape taken out and thrown in the contraband bin with the words 'not allowed' to loud titters from the burka clad X-ray machine operator. The man repacking his bag while spluttering helplessly was pretty obviously a US serviceman... -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach Time for tea.

Regards Renato.

Chances are that you'll be told to check in the heavy hand baggage as hold baggage at Milan. Alternatively you'll have to buy a flight case and send it as proper fragile secure checked baggage Baggage handlers in India can be very rough and stuff gets pilfered. Be aware that all luggage on flights arriving in India from the Middle East is X-rayed on arrival AFTER you've collected it. We send stuff via Fed Ex, it takes three days and you can guarantee it. So far we've had no problems with them. Make sure you've got a proper list of what you take in and what you bring out or you may be charged duty. Import duty on this sort of stuff in India is about 40%. You'll be asked to fill in a form on the aircraft that you surrender at the point of entry about the things you're bringing into India. Make sure you've got a proper journalist visa as well... India is very aware that there are terrorists about the place and people taking too close an interest in some sensitive things can get picked up and questioned. Unfortunately these places include most of the popular tourist places and well known places of worship. A foreigner carrying a shed load of professional quality photographic equipment without good cause may attract police attention. -- William Black I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
