Jammu and Kashmir is one of the beautiful and most visited states of
India. It is located in the North of India and shares its
international borders with China, Tibet and Pakistan. Jammu and

Attractions of Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar

Srinagar is the capital city of Jammu and Kashmir and a famous hill
station of India. Srinagar lies on the banks of river Jhelum, which is
a tributary of Indus river. Srinagar is famous for its Dal Lake and
beautiful houseboats. Other important attractions of Srinagar include
traditional handicrafts, Kashmiri shawls and dry fruits. Main
attractions of Srinagar include Hazratbal Shrine, Shankaracharya
temple, Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, Jama Masjid and Wular Lake.

Gulmarg

Gulmarg is located in Baramulat district of Jammu and Kashmir, 57 km
away from Srinagar. Gulmarg is famous for its winter sports and other
adventure activities. Highest Golf ground of the world is also located
in Srinagar. Every year Skiing, Heli-Skiing, Snow Boarding
competitions are organised in Gulmarg, which attract a large number of
adventure freaks from around the globe. One can also enjoy a Gandola
ride in Gulmarg, which presents a bird's eye view of the mesmerising
hill station.

Leh Ladakh

Leh Ladakh is famous by the name of Cold Desert of India. It is also
known by the name of Little Tibet, as it is inhabited by Buddhist
population. The main attraction of the regions is the ancient Buddhist
monasteries. Its rugged terrains attract adventure lovers from all
over the world to try their hands in various adventure activities like
mountaineering, trekking, mountain biking, white water rafting and
camping. A number of Buddhist fairs and festivals are organised in Leh
Ladakh, which present the culture and traditions of the region.

Vaishno Devi Shrine

Vaishno Devi Shrine is located about 50 km away from Jammu town. The
temple is dedicated to Goddess Vaishno Devi, incarnation of Goddess
Durga. It is located at an altitude of about 52,000 feet above sea
level. One has to climb a trek of 12 km, from the base town Katra, to
reach temple. A large number of visitors flock this holy shrine
throughout the year. Helicopter facilities are also available to reach
the temple from Katra town.

Amarnath Shrine

Amarnath shrine is located at a distance of about 145 km from Srinagar
city. It is one of the holiest places of Hindus in India. Dedicated to
Lord Shiva, Amarnath Shrine's main attraction is the naturally formed
Shiva Lingam of ice. Best time to visit Amarnath Shrine is from July
to August, as it remains cut off from rest of the world because of the
heavy snowfall in the area.
