From: Tim on 26 Mar 2007 18:38 I've read a bunch about EMH, but still can't decide what to do. What's the consensus? Is it better to go those days to take advantage of the extra hours, or to avoid the park altogether? We're going in August. The general plan is to do the park in the morning, go back to the hotel (or somewhere else) for R&R, then go back in the evening.
From: Rex Mumea on 26 Mar 2007 19:00 First let me say that touringplans.com has a great calendar for when things will and will be less busy. Second it is vacation, a lot of people wanna stay up late and howl at the moon so to speak, so evening EMH is usually pretty busy for the first couple hours (depending on park) with a tapering effect as the kids get tired. Either way the experts say avoid the park with EMH as it will be the most crowded. However, IMHO... We are early risers, dreaded morning people. So we like the morning EMH cause no one is there, everyone is sleeping in or getting the kids ready. If you get up early... hit the Morning EMH till about lunch time when the crowd will "max out". Then head off to the park that the touring plans calendar sez will be least busy. We were able to hit all the major attractions, walked right on, when we got to the park at open, that as the lines got longer, grab casual lunch, wonder to a less crowded park, hit a few more attractions. Since we are fit and 40ish and just the two of us, we get aroudn quick. Kilimanjaro Safaris and the trails are closed (maybe also Rafiki's Planet Watch??), but that still leaves lots to do. It's an interesting park at night, and I really liked going on Expedition Everest in the dark. Patty

I haven't been an on-site guest in 7 years [before free EMH, possibly before $$ E-ticket] so I have no firsthand experience with the times. I have talked secondhand about it with my mother who is a MK custodian and gets scheduled for EMH times somewhat often. According to her comments, it almost doesn't matter what time the park closes to the public and goes EMH- the first hour will generally be very well used, the second hour will see a moderate, almost hardcore group and the third hour will be like a ghost town in many areas. MK does have the advantage over the other parks in that during "A" periods, almost anything you'd want to do is open and even during "C" periods, you can still do plenty of high profile attractions. So even the "well used" first hour is still going to be easier for riding than almost any daytime time of year. The one big thing you have to concern yourself with is exactly when the EMH's are and what you think you're going to do the next day. There's a huge difference between EMH'ing from, say 8 to 11 vs. doing it from 11 to 2am. If you like to start with early mornings at WDW, a late EMH could be an issue. If you're not as concerned when you get up the next morning, the value of it goes way up.
From: john.direwolf on 27 Mar 2007 05:31 We use EMHs when they fit into our plans. I don't think we've ever "plan around them". It's always hey we are here for EMH, we'll stay till we don't want to stay any more. I will say, and this is more true for MK than the others, the last hour of EMH really can be a ghost town. We've done Space mountainx2 and Buzzx3 in the last hour of an EMH. I don't think you could ride them any more in an hour than that, just between how long they take and getting out the exit and back in on them. So just treat the park as being open later, no one makes you stay even if you got a wrist band. You can always leave. Becareful of "overplanning" your trip. I see so many people in the park rushing from thing to thing becuase "they are running behind." It's worth looking at what is where and thinking about what you'd like to do. johno
