From: PMCMch on 5 Apr 2010 12:52 I will be in Israel this June and July and plan to travel to Greece for a week. I've heard about people taking ferries from Haifa, Israel to Cyprus and various Greek Islands. From what I can tell this option is no longer widely available. There are cruises available, but that's not what I had in mind. I've had great experiences traveling around Greece by ferry and wanted to do this again. Is there an inexpensive way to travel from Israel to Greece by boat? Am I stuck flying from Tel Aviv to Athens, then taking a ferry? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I think the situation is as you say. There used to be regular ferries from Piraeus to Haifa via Cyprus run by Poseidon and Salamis lines. Unfortunately they were suspended in 2002 and have not been started again. I'm afraid you will have to fly. Never mind though - you will have more time in the Greek islands! -- Mike Lane UK North Yorkshire email: mike_lane at mac dot com
