A lot of mine are fairly generic roads/scenery and my memory is fading a
well.

I take a mobile phone on the bike for emergencies, and to phone home in the
evening so the family knows I'm safe. And a Nikon SLR and recently a Holux
logger (1xAA battery) and that's it. If I want to be contacted I even turn
the phone on, normally it's off. If I want to get any news(which I normally
don't, maybe the weather forecast), I buy a local paper and try and work it
out.

It would be the loss of data that would upset me more than the cost.

Anyway I tend to travel about a lot on holiday, moving somewhere new every
few days, so anything extra that I can't carry in my pocket would be a huge
encumbrance.

And some just don't bother to shave for the duration, like me.

I must be one of the last who doesn't even use a mobile at home. We
have one for calling the AA if necessary. That's it, and will remain
so.
