From: Craig on 18 Feb 2007 01:37 Hello, Does anybody have the GPS waypoints or coordinates for Cemetary Beach (reef) and Smith's Cove. My wife and I are cruising to to GC and Cozumel next week and it would help to be able to use the GPS to guide us there. :-) I am also planning on visiting Punta Sur in Cozumel. Any GPS points for attractions within the park or for the reefs offshore? Any other good coordinates for reefs that are accessible from shore? Thanks a bunch! Craig caheatonATfuse.net AT=@
From: Tom K on 18 Feb 2007 20:38 Please understand that Cozumel had a hurricane that was stronger, and lasted longer (in terms of sitting over the island) than the one that destroyed New Orleans. It was apparently the strongest hurricane in recorded history. Buildings and cruise piers were obliterated. What used to be piers was mostly just pieces of steel sticking out of the water. The reefs that were there are totally gone in many places. The devistation was incredible. We were on one of the first ships to return after the hurricane. --Tom "Craig" <caheaton(a)netzero.net> wrote in message news:1a00d$45d7f42d$4831d176$28780(a)FUSE.NET... > Hello, > Does anybody have the GPS waypoints or coordinates for Cemetary Beach > (reef) and Smith's Cove. That is why I'm planning on heading to Punta Sur...trip reports from those who have been there (post hurricane) have said the park is still a pleasant place to visit. Snorkeling in Cozumel will be secondary...just hope to observe some fish (which are apparently hanging around the structure of the dead coral). Otherwise, we will roam the park, visit the lighthouse, walk along the beach, etc. We've been to Chankanaab so this time I wanted to see some place different. Thanks for the heads up, though. From what I've heard, they have (and are) doing a great job in rebuilding the infrastructure. I've heard that ships are docking there again. (I'm planning on making Grand Cayman our "snorkeling" stop.) Craig
