There's a good possibility I have to change my dates for next month.
This puts me on a cusp where the "summer" rates are ending and the
"fall" rates begin. I have the nights I need at one of the All-Star
resorts on the "fall" side, but the summer rates are about $40 a night
more. I can get the Hilton at Downtown Disney for considerably less -
it would save me $25 a night plus tax for the three nights I'd still
be under the "summer" rates so I was thinking of staying there for
three nights then switching to the All Stars. I already checked and
they don't charge a "resort fee" in addition to their rates as that's
the one thing that would end up making it about even.

Can anyone tell me about any experience with the Hilton, particularly
transportation? That's my main concern since my daughter will be
keeping her car and not letting me use it. I know I can take
advantage of EMH there and pretty much walk across the street to
Downtown Disney, my main concern is getting to the parks in the
morning. I know buses don't run from DD to the parks in the morning,
but do they in the afternoon or evening?

Also, when I have to change resorts, what time do buses start running
between DD and the resorts in the morning?

Patti,
Sorry, but there are no buses directly to the parks from DD. The
Hilton may have their own transportation but, if so, it probably
wouldn't be as frequent as Disney's. I might suggest a bus to an Epcot
resort and walking (or take the boat) to Epcot and DHS, and a bus to a
MK resort, then monorail to the MK (or walk from the Contemporary). AK
will require a bus transfer.

DD shopping doesn't start until 9:30 but bus service does start
earlier. I just don't think it will be too frequent or reliable to the
resorts before then. I might suggest getting to the bus stops early
and board the first resort bus you see (that's not outrageously in the
wrong direction). Then transfer to a park at the resort. Good luck.

I'm not 100% certain, but I can tell you what my impressions &
rememberences are...
1. there are buses directly from the Hilton to the theme parks
2. I thought that there weren't any buses directly from the theme
parks to DTD anymore
3. Don't know about times for DTD to resorts in the morning, if I had
to guess I'd say about 9:30
Well, maybe I didn't contribute much, but I'm sure those who know
exactly will have fun pointing out where I'm wrong -- have at it
everyone <really, I'm smiling, this is more fun that writing about
drills & taps at the moment!>

a suggestion -- take a taxi to your resort on the day that you check
out of the Hilton and into your Disney resort -- I predict it won't be
over $20 and it is likely to save you a lot of time and anxiety of
going by bus (unless of course you're accustomed to moving about by
bus & you won't have much to take with you)

oh another idea -- you could take Hilton's bus to any theme park and
then take the bus from there to your resort!

The DTD buses are operated just like the theme park buses in that early
mornings, their main job is to get people *to* the destination and not
return to their starting point.

You may see a lot of Disney buses at the Marketplace in the morning but
very few will be picking up. They drop the two DTD stops and then drop
Typhoon Lagoon and are dispatched to their next route to pick up all
over again.

I would not look at this option as being better than the Hilton's own
service.

The Hilton has its own transportation to the parks, so I'd assume you
take their shuttle for EMH. I don't know how often it runs, so that may
be a concern.

As son as they start running from the resorts to DD, they should be
going back. My guess is to expect buses around 8:00am.
