From: Walt on
The latest schedule:

Thursday 10 June -- "Lon Bronson All-Star Band" free show at Ovation Lounge,
Green Valley Ranch, 9-11 PM.

It's the best free show in Vegas!

http://lonbronsonband.com/

Friday 11 June -- "AVLV Spectacular High Noon Open Shootout at Gold Coast
Lanes" sponsored by BR Eagle. 12 noon.

It's a bowling tournament open to all. Three games and shoe rental will set
you back all of $11.75 (or $8.75 for seniors of an undetermined age). The
Gold Coast runs a free shuttle bus to/from Bill's.

Friday 11 June -- "Intra-Cosmic Karaoke Contest" sponsored by DocTom and Jana,
piano bar at Harrah's, 6 PM.

Many of last year's competitors will be back to butcher more of your favorite
songs. There will also be new faces onstage like Doctor Bob and Walt, who is
threatening to perform Talking Heads' "Psycho Killer." The piano bar is
located at the front of Harrah's casino near the south entrance.

Friday 11 June -- Informal late-night gathering at the bar in Main Street
Station, downtown. Drink and/or shoot the breeze with your fellow AVLVers.
Let's say 11 PM or thereabouts.

Saturday 12 June -- "Pan-Galactic Series of Poker" sponsored by Tom Ronson,
Binion's Gambling Hall, 11:30 AM.

This 2nd annual Texas Holdem tournament promises to be more fun than a barrel
of showgirls, with last year's champion Tom in CT back to defend his title
against a slew of challengers old and new. The European
tourney-within-a-tourney will again feature players from England, Scotland and
Extreme South Denmark.

Entry fee is just $40 with one re-buy allowed before the first break. Try to
arrive a little early so you can purchase your seat and help get the
tournament started promptly.

Saturday 12 June -- "Main Event" featuring dinner, awards presentations and a
show starring local Vegas icon Tony Sacca. Arranged by Steve Harder-Kucera.
Location is Las Vegas Rocks Cafe on ground floor of Neonopolis, east end of
Fremont Street Experience at Las Vegas Blvd. Tentative time: approx. 6 PM.
Cost for dinner & show approximately $40/person. Steve should have more
details on this before long.

Lost Weekend Q & A:

Q: "Who are you people?"

A: Just folks who know each other from reading this newsgroup and who get
together occasionally to have fun in Vegas and enjoy each other's company.

Q: "Isn't it scary meeting strangers from the Internet?

A: After several years and numerous AVLV gatherings large and small, none of
us have murdered each other yet. That's a record we are proud of. Also, it
is said most accidents happen in the home, so you are probably safer with us.

Q: "Am I invited to Lost Weekend?"

A: Everyone here is invited who hasn't managed to get himself specifically
disinvited. You are even welcome to attend the paid events without paying
(except the Tony Sacca theater show of course), in case you'd just like to
hang out and not bowl or buy dinner or whatever.

Q: "Is it too late to sign up for the dinner or the competitive events?"

A: Not at all! Let us know here which events you're interested in.

Q: "I won't have a car and cab fares can really add up."

A: Technically that's a declarative statement and not a question. However,
if you need a ride to any of these events from the Strip or downtown, we'll
have folks with cars who would be happy to help you out if they can. Don't be
shy about asking.

Q: "I have a question that was not answered here."

A: Who am I, the Amazing Kreskin?

Since I'm new here; my wife's going out of town and I don't know anyone,
currently I have no plans to attend anything downtown.
if I can break free I might stop by Binions and watch the poker tournament
for a while.
I'll just blend in the background, but if I hear a name that I recognize I
might say hello.

Uh huh.

You claim to be new in town, you don't know anyone, and your wife
leaving for the weekend.

But wait: what's this?

" if I can break free I might stop by Binions and watch the poker
tournament
for a while."

"Break free" from WHAT, exactly?

You are new to Las Vegas, you don't know anybody, and yet you'd need
to "break free?"

Oh, really?

My Bullshit Meter is going BEEP BEEP BEEP!
