From: Gadget World on 5 Jun 2010 22:30 On the Oasis this week we had a couple who returned to the ship a Costa Maya in time to see the ship off in the sunset. Instead of seeking advice at the port or from the ship's agent the couple took a $200 taxi ride to Cosumel with the same driver who got them back late (probably on purpose) and slept in a $100 flea bag hotel to catch up with the ship the next morning. When he got to the front desk he learned that the ship had left a life boat for him at the dock in Costa Maya, which would have delivered him to the ship in Cosumel (if not sooner) had he only asked. Perhaps it would have been better if he did not have the $400 cash he spent on this folly, but it could have been worse if he missed the ship in Cosumel, as so any other do drinking Margaritas an watching the ship leave from Carlos & Charlies. Coz is an island. There used to be a car ferry just beyond Cancun, but I understand that it no longer runs. So how did the taxi get to Cozumel? Also, if the taxi is $200.00 and the flea bag hotel is $100.00 that adds up to $300.00. So what was spent to add up to $400.00? Did he tip the taxi driver $100.00? That's a mighty big tip to give a driver who got him back to the port late. Or, is this whole story one of those internet myths that finds it's way to different cruise forums? -- ________ To email me, Edit "blog" from my email address. Brian M. While Gadget tells stories that can be hard to believe sometimes I certainly think this could have happened. And there are hourly ferries from the mainland at Playa Del Carmen to Cozumel. I have been on them a couple of times. Also have heard of people missing the ship in Belize and catching up in Cozumel or Costa Maya. I think the costs could easily be in the range of $300 or $400. -- Charles
