From: NealR2000 on 26 Sep 2007 08:45 I am planning a trip to Peru in October, flying in and out of Lima. I only have a week, so itinerary is key. I'd love to travel the Andean route, taking the train to Huancayo, and then a series of buses via Ayacucho and Abancay to Cusco. After Machu Picchu, we plan to fly back to Lima. I did this overland bus trip 20-years ago. Unbelievably uncomfortable, and downright scary, due to the Shining Path, but the experience was unforgetable. Due to time limitations, I plan to take buses from Lima down through Pisco, Ica, and Nazca, and then inland to Cusco, via Abancay. It's the Nazca to Cusco section that I need help with. I'm getting mixed reports online that range between a well-paved road, and the road from hell. Not all of these reports are dated, so it's difficult to tell. I gather that the scenery is fantastic. Can anyone advise me on the state of this road, safety, and the overall bus experience.

Have a great journey. The conditions are for a warrior, so try to travel light and least flashy. The scenery is fantastic and the conditions are hell, but I did it.
