From: Mark (SF) on 29 Jun 2010 11:50 One of my favorite things about cruising in Europe is that we get a chance to see "old friends" in new livery, as ships are retired from US lines and moved to other lines. Today, as we were approaching the port at Corfu, I saw a familiar profile. It was clearly the old Star Princess (ex Fairstar, IIRC) - now the "Ocean Village" I recall how popular she was in the Princess fleet. Chatting with some passengers on the dock, it appears that she is still a happy ship. (As an almost-coincidence, the last time I saw her was 12 years ago, when she was docked next to the Crystal Symphony in SF when we took a tour of the Symphony. Today, under a new name, she was docked next to the Crystal Serenity) Mark

Princess bought Sitmar and the Fair Majesty (later knwon as the SP) and she was the most well appointed ship of her time imnho. I can remember commented and liking her external appearances but most did not. (not affiliated) Yes Ari - but the Fairstar (which actually may NOT have been completed at the time of the takeover) was basically the model for the (previous) Crown and Regal Princesses. I started seriously following cruising at about that time, so my knowedge of Sitmar was more on past reputation. Although it's idiomatic that the same ship will elicit different opinions by different people, I DO recall reading/hearing fond reviews of the ship when it was in the Princess fleet. Mark

Surprised she is still afloat since Carnicus (aka Carnival) was to have shut down OV in 2008 or so. -- Ari Silverstein, C.T.A; C.T.A.S, Cruise Travel Advisory Services www.cruisequick.com - able to offer some of the lowest prices and best value added in the industry.
