What I was saying was - when you know a place fairly well, you have a
different perspective than if you just visit for a day from a ship. My
perspective on Miami and Key West is different from those people that
are just passing through. I don't know Ft. L well (We've disembarked
there twice, we stayed there overnight once to take a cruise and we
stayed there for a couple of days on our own boat, but that's not
enough to really know the place) and since I don't have family there,
it isn't a place I'm attached to. Saying it is 'resort-like' doesn't
make it more appealing, as I don't do resorts.

The main thing about Ft. L for us is Blue Water Books, but I can order
from them by phone. The other interesting place is Sailorman which is
a recycling boat equipment place, but in spite of the name it is
mostly power boat stuff, and Bob thinks that it is very disorganized.
Sailors Exchange in St. Augustine and Bacons in Annapolis are much
better.

I don't mind the Miami airport at all, but that's partly because I
know what to expect and partly because our daughter is a pilot who
flies out of Miami and she can make things easier.

I thought I knew what to expect a few weeks ago flying American
Airlines back from my cruise but a few days earlier American had moved
to a new Terminal and everything was different. The check in lines were
actually shorter but that might have been because it was a Monday.
There was no clear direction then as to the correct line and some had
to start over. Getting to the gate after check in was about a 20 minute
walk after going through security as my plane was at some weird
satellite gate. The whole thing thing is not finished. They are
building a mover system to take people to the gate. Hopefully that will
make it better when that is done and the whole project is finished.

That's where my daughter would have helped - she would have known
where to go or else could have found out for me (or you if you were a
friend of hers or mine)
