When we started cruising back in 1981 .The two main ports were NY &
Miami .NY being at the end of her long run as top port and Miami
taking over. But it seems that Port Everglades is the top cruise port
in the world now .How did she over take the port of Miami ? It seems
all the great new ships and high end cruise lines want to us
Everglades more now ! Is it because people feel safer in Ft
Louderdale then Miami ! Or is Ft Louderdale a more visitor vacation
friendly city . Or is it that horn blowing back and fourth when going
from port everglades from the condo"s LOL !!

Port Everglades has room for more ships than Miami. The FLL airport is
only minutes away from the port and much more "passenger friendly" than
Miami. The Miami Customs and Immigration office is inefficient,
creating long lines of people waiting to get off the cruise ships, where
the wait in Port Everglades is usually minimal. The port facilities
themselves are cleaner and traffic patterns are better laid out.

I don't have much good to say about the Port of Miami and not much bad
to say about Port Everglades. I really have to think twice... maybe
three times before booking a cruise out of Miami. When we do, it is
only because there is a ship there that I want to go on and have no
other choice.

Oasis is in FLL (as is Independence) because RCI just got tired of the
hassles of dealing with the authorities in Miami. FLL is user
friendly, Miami, is well, Miami.

We've visited Miami frequently and for fairly long periods of time
like several weeks. (The first visit I remember was in 1950 when we
went to the Orange Bowl Parade.) I find lots of interesting things
to do and places to go in Miami. And we have a daughter and
grandchildren there. It's like Key West - we lived there for three
years in the late 60s, one daughter was born there and since then,
we've visited frequently. I like it. But we have more background
than the average tourist.

We have only rarely been to Ft L. I feel that it is kind of bland as
a city and it doesn't appeal to me. But it is a more convenient port
for cruise ships, and Miami immigration is the pits.

Just the opposite for me. I love FLL. Because it's NOT a big city like
Miami. It's more suburbs. Kinda like what we have here in Central NJ. In
fact, here in Central Jersey, I'm about a mile away from US Route 1... the
same US Route 1 that runs right through FLL. Very similar neighborhoods,
there and here... except we don't have canals with sailboats in our back
yards in this part of NJ. FLL is the kind of town in FL that I could
actually live in.
