From: STAR on 18 Feb 2010 13:51 I might be considering a Southern Caribbean cruise in the spring and have usually departed from FLA or San Juan. Are there any reasons (except that it would extend the journey) not to leave from NY. We live on LI....thanks, Gail

Con - takes longer to get to the warm water, and the northern Atlantic can sometimes be rougher. Also you may have to deal with driving in snow and parking at the port. You may be able to get a shuttle to the ship so you don't have to park. I don't regard an extended journey as a disadvantage.

That would seem to be a push. > > I don't regard an extended journey as a disadvantage. Parking at the Manhattan pier is $30/day and maxes out at $300 for 10 days to 30 days. Any Southern Caribbean cruise will most likely have 2 sea days at each end of the cruise. I would love that, but don't know if it is a plus for you or not. One huge positive sailing out of the NY harbor is seeing the Statue of Liberty and the NY skyline. I also love sailing under the "V" bridge. sue
