After a few days of Disney with the grandgirls, we decided to see
the ocean and have a cup of coffee on the Queen Mary before
returning home to Las Vegas. We had stayed there prior to a
cruise about 4 years ago and the experience had been less than
good. Still, the ship's a landmark and we wanted to see how it
was doing.

Upon arrival, we boarded the QM and walked around the shops. I
had a chance to speak to one of the shopkeepers and he told me
that the QM was under new management and that things were getting
better each month, as seen by his receipts and anecdotal tales
from other shopkeepers. Personally, I noticed some dirt and wear
to the old girl, but the overall look and feel of the ship was
much cleaner and fresher than from 4 years back.

While I cannot say what the condition of the rooms might be, the
overall feel I had from the visit makes me favorably inclined to
give it another try when and if we take another Mexican Riviera
Carnival cruise out of Long Beach.

Indeed, the new management company is putting some time and money into
sprucing up the Queen Mary. She was definitely showing her age. Since we
only live 13 miles away, we can see, and almost track, the progress.

Ironically, today, I just put up a link to the Queen Mary herself. Check out
this information and their website. And yes, many of the hotel rooms are
being upgraded as well.

It's funny that you should bring up Carnival Cruise Lines and the Queen
Mary. Whether their 3/4 or 7 days cruises to Baja/Mexican Rivera, at one
time their was a joint agreement between Carnival and the Queen Mary
Foundation for boarding the Queen Mary for those Carnival passengers
arriving early. However, that is apparently a thing of the past, and
something both companies are keeping tights lips about. Too bad. That was a
natural and made in haven match to me. To my way of thinking, they need to
iron out their difference, and bring this customer service amenity back.
