LOL, nothing gets past you, Jack! And you've got some balls making fun
of my typos! ;-)

Ah, um, citation, please?

The companies I work for (e.g. Apple and Symantec) are certainly
showing no signs of accepting "setup" as a verb. They either have
it as "set up" in their style guides directly, or they tell people
to use Webster's New Collegiate for word spellings, where it is
also listed as two words. Oh, and the noun is a single word, not
hyphenated. To summarize: "Please set up my computer today" and
"That's a nifty setup you've got."

Back to writing an Apple white paper now... :-)

I can't seem to get to AIOE. Is it me or could the site be down.

Thanks.

I'm using aioe.org now. They do have times where the disappear. This past Sunday I
had trouble connecting to their news server. So just keep trying.

Edith, did you change the port on the setting screen to 80? (or 443 if
using a secure SSL connection)? Some corporate firewalls and even some
ISP's block the default NNTP ports.

Another test it to see if you can "ping" the server. You do this at a
command prompt.

To get to a command prompt in Windows XP, click START then RUN and then
type "command" in the box.

In Windows Vista, click START and then enter "cmd" into the "start
search" box.

On the Mac, it's "Go" -> "Utilities" -> "Terminal".

At the "C:\...>" prompt, type "ping 194.177.96.26". Or if you want to
test Motzarella, then "ping 85.214.105.209". On a PC, it will stop
after five tries. On the Mac, it will continue until you press CTRL-C.

You should get something like this:

Pinging 194.177.96.26 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 194.177.96.26: bytes=32 time=131ms TTL=50
Reply from 194.177.96.26: bytes=32 time=129ms TTL=50
Reply from 194.177.96.26: bytes=32 time=135ms TTL=50
Reply from 194.177.96.26: bytes=32 time=127ms TTL=50

Ping statistics for 194.177.96.26:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 127ms, Maximum = 135ms, Average = 130ms

If it works, then try to ping with the URL (i.e. site name), like "ping
nntp.aioe.org" or "ping news.motzarella.org". You should get similar
results. If the URL does not work but the IP address does, then you
have a DNS issue and can get around this by using the IP address instead
of the URL in the "Server Name" in Thunderbird.

If you get an error such as "request timed out", then your computer
can't get to the server. This could be a firewall issue or a DNS
problem. Let me know the results and we'll go from there.
