Which is very odd, because it suggests that they get most of their gambling
revenue from non-gamblers. UK visitors to Vegas (who go because it's VEGAS!)
take in the sights and the ambience, but don't put more than a few dollars
through the machines - so they can tick off the "gambled in Vegas" box - and
cash out if they see a profit - "WON in Vegas!!!". Perhaps they're still
more profitable than my group who play FP VP and grab all the comps and
cashback available, but I suspect not.

For quite a while now, the Vegas resorts have been trying to diversify their revenue
sources to rely less on gambling and to develop restaurants, shows, clubs, etc. into
additional profit centers. This is even reflected in some of their websites. The
home page of Caesars highlights their spa, dining, entertainment, hotel and shopping.

http://www.caesarspalace.com/casinos/caesars-palace/hotel-casino/property-home.shtml

MGM Grand's home page lists Casino only after Hotel, Restaurants, Nightlife,
Amenities and Entertainment. Ditto for Venetian.

On Wynn's home page you have to scroll quite a ways to even find a casino link.

So Vegas promotes their non-gaming attractions to a much greater extent than they
used to. Which makes sense when, as you noted, customers have more and more places
to gamble closer to home.
