Hi,

I'm taking my younger brother to New York in May, and I was hoping to
surprise him with a restaurant with a great view. My brother is a skyscraper
enthusiast, so hopefully we'll be able to spend an evening on top of one. I
was at the restaurant at top of WTC in 2000, and was very impressed.
Are there any similar restaurants or bars on top of skyscrapers in
Manhattan?

Sincerely,
HH

There's a revolving restaurant on top of the Marriott in midtown. It's
only 40-some stories up, so I don't know if that's a skyscraper.
However, it has a great view of midtown Manhattan. As a restaurant,
it's rather overpriced, but I think there's also the possibility of
having a snack or something at a less exorbitant price.

There is 'Top of the Sixes' at 666 5th Ave, with a great view north over
Central Park. It's not that tall of a building, maybe 40 stories, but it's
a pretty neat and friendly place.

There's a bar higher up in Rockefeller Center, The Rainbow <something>.
They have some cafe food there.

Since the wtc came down, I think that's your best bet, or the aforementioned
Marriott. For whatever reason, NY doesn't have much of an inclination
toward elevated dining.

This just in! Forget Top of the Sixes unless you like cigars. Just last
Dec it became the Havana Club, a cigar bar. That makes the Marriott your
best bet for dinner.

If you don't mind roughing it, get take out of your choice and go to Top
Of The Rock at 30 Rockefeller Center. At this time it's the tallest
observation deck in NYC. You need to buy tickets in advance. That's
the only way I can see you eating and being on a sky scraper. The
alternate thing to do is to eat dinner before or after going to Top of
The Rock.
