From: Gary on 10 Jul 2010 02:36 I was surprised that Nonny didn't mention this, as he spends quite a bit of time at SouthPoint. We go by every so often and since he didn't say anything about it, I guess I will. The 1 year plus expansion to the casino is almost complete. The wall that used to block it off from the poker room/entrance to the movie theater is now down and the space is almost complete. They have the new, expanded poker room completed. It will again be on the far south side of the casino complex. Added space for slots and VP sits between the new poker room and the existing room. It looks like maybe 200 new machines. On the far east wall is a new Race book. Yes, sports fans. The current Race and Sports Book is being separated into 2 distinct areas. The current book will be exclusively devoted to Sports betting, and the new space will be exclusively for Race betting. There will also be a new entrance from the far south side of the main parking lot and west LeBaron ave. The expansion opens on July 15th. To celebrate the new poker room, all poker tournaments between the 15-30 will have the room rake eliminated, in addition to other offers. I think the $1 per game drop for the high hand progressives will continue, as will the normal drop for all cash games. The poker room was busier than I've seen it in months. They had 8 tables going at 6PM, when last week at the same time they only had 2. The casino was mildly busy, but the garage and parking lots were fairly full. Must have been a shitload of people at the movies to see the new releases. They were constantly coming and going up/down the elevators. This room continues to be full of local rocks, so be prepared to work for every winner. From: westie2f on 10 Jul 2010 05:53 I have a related question, I read an article earlier in the year where Gaughan mentioned building a lounge called the Grandview. Has it opened?

When we go to Southpoint, we normally park in the garage and enter via the rear elevators. From there, it's either over to the elevator to the Primarily Prime/Baja Miguels'/bar or a tad further down to the elevator to the theater/bingo/bowling. We simply don't venture that far out into the casino area. We were there yesterday afternoon and evening, seeing Despicable Me, then having drinks at the VP bar outside Primarily Prime, followed by a terrific prime rib dinner. Southpoint is probably our casino of choice and we just don't venture out into the casino floor our surrounds that much. When we go to Green Valley Ranch, we normally enter by the downstairs Movie/Arcade entrance and hardly ever venture upstairs. Parking is usually behind the Elephant Bar, where we prefer to eat, rather than in the casino. Sure, there are exceptions such as when GVR had those 1-day only BOGO coupons a year or so back. Likewise, we've only been to M 4-5 times and since it has no theater, and since we're really not that big of gamblers, we find it boring. Frankly, I prefer Fiesta Henderson and Sunset Station over M and GVR both. Nonny -- On most days, it's just not worth the effort of chewing through the restraints..

The new gaming area is supposed to have a lounge in it called the Grandview lounge. So far, it is still under wraps. As soon as I hear/see anything, I'll let you know. There is also supposed to be a Steak & Shake, which would be a waste of floor space in my opinion. I'd like to see a Terrible Mike's, like they used to have at the Orleans. I would love to see a Terrible Mike's, but with all the build your own hamburger competition now, I doubt it will happen. Boy, did I love Terrible Mike's at the Orleans! You should see Create and Smash Burger fighting it out on Lake Mead Blvd! Keeps Mini real happy....
