7th street between Charleston and Clark is one of the nicest streets
downtown. Nice old hoses (all law offices) and lots of trees. About
the last house before Clark is this old creepy place with a ton of
overgrowth and several black cats (no kidding) roaming. To me it looks
like something out of a Grimm's fairytale. I call it the wizard's
house, 'cause a dude lives there. Otherwise I call it a witch's house.
Anyways, walking past it, I saw that a lot of it had burned up. Poor
old wizard. Perhaps a spell went amiss. I also noted the old Fremont
Medical Center is now sporting a big neon sign with a red cross saying
"Emergency Arts". There were a lot of people on barstools listening to
some chick with a guitar, most likely playing artsy music. There was
also a lot of new neon flashing in the East Fremont section for some
new Latin joint. But I had already walked my butt off, and my free
parking was close to expiring, so I passed it up. There was a new
cigar joint too (in addition to the old one around the corner). They
just may be able to bring that stretch of Fremont to life. Needs a
good Tattoo parlor etc. FSE was absolutely packed at 8 pm on a Monday
night. Downtown rocks.
