From: Thomas W. on 22 Jun 2010 17:15 The days got more packed as my notes got a lot shorter. I hope it's still useful to some. Day 7 This morning, I met Matt and his son for breakfast. They were passing through town for 24 hours, and were doing all kinds of kid's activities, so attending the rather adult activities of Lost Weekend wasn't possible. We took the tram to Bellagio and walked through the brilliant Conservatory exhibit again. We had the breakfast buffet at Bellagio where Matt's kid was one happy camper (it was his very first time in Vegas, after all). His first plate was all bacon, all good. It was nice to see Vegas through a kids eyes for a day. We then checked in at the Trop, where I had got the possibly best deal of the trip at Travelzoo: $50 on a Friday, $50 free slot play, 2 free drinks (and they were good for Sam Adams), and a room on the top floor of the newly renovated top floor of the Paradise Tower with a nice view of Mandalay Bay to NY NY. I managed to cash out with $49, so the nominal cost was for the annoying resort fee of $8 which offered pretty much nothing but parking and a pool. I liked the renovated room a lot obviously, rates wont stay this ridiculously low, but this should remain a value option in this prime location. They hadnt got rid of the stained glass, but construction was pretty much everywhere in the casino. Some of the new stuff looked rather cheapo, but I prefer this by a mile to the demolish everything and then run out of cash approach used elsewhere. The casino had a nice vibe despite of the construction and walking around it on a Friday evening, there were plenty of good looking people in attendance. Matt and his son went to see a show, while I met Donna and Denny for lunch at Payard, located at Caesars. They offered a $20 prix fixe lunch, the menu of which had changed just the day before, so I didn't get to try the lobster salad. But I still enjoyed jumbo shrimp in a tasty garlic broth, crispy sea bass with ratatouille and a great selection of the patisserie Payard is justly famous for. Again, the company was fantastic, and I got several awesome presents from Donna. The one I was able to use immediately was a great t-shirt with a built-in electronic that was sensitive to music, so it flashed in colours like an amp. That came in very handy during the very next event, karaoke at Harrah's which Jana and DocTom had organized. We had missed several epic performances like the legendary Psycho Killer Walt did (Im not sure whether he wore his raincoat for this one nobody seemed to want to talk about it), but I got to listen to quite a few wondrous performances by avlvers who were, for this occasion, similarly shameless as I was. This is one of the things I'd probably would not do at home and there's a fine case to be made that that's just the way it should be. But as I replied to a good friend who wrote me he had to stay at home instead of coming to Vegas because of several important tasks, feeling very much like a responsible adult: Feeling like a responsible adult is overrated. Especially when you're shouting rather than singing one of your favorite Springsteen songs (they didnt have Badlands, but Dancing in the Dark seemed effective enough, even though the dancing ladies sure were thrown of my my cryptic come on, Courtney shout-out) wearing a flashing shirt while being cheered on by good friends and being joined on stage by dancing drunken Asian chicks. I should have been drunk too, but I wasnt. I met up with Matt again and we made the short trip to the Pinball Hall of Fame's new location opposite the Liberace museum where we spent a lot of time getting rid of quarters playing some favorite old machines and a few new ones for good measure. I like the NBA All Stars one best. Later, we had dinner at the In 'n Out Burger on Tropicana. I was too tired to accompany them to the Strat, turning my free play into money instead, and then went to bed. http://picasaweb.google.de/ThomasWLV/LasVegas20106?authkey=Gv1sRgCMmfrLOp95qiVQ&feat=directlink _____________________________________________________________________ RecGroups : the community-oriented newsreader : www.recgroups.com

Looks like a nice room in your pics, and a great view of the Strip. I hope they can repair the tattered reputation of the Trop. > Again, the company was fantastic, and I got > several awesome presents from Donna. Ah, so that's where the flashing shirt came from. I found that shirt online before the trip and briefly considered buying one. Good think I didn't or folks would've been clamoring for a karaoke duet from us. > Especially when you're shouting rather than singing one of your favorite > Springsteen songs (they didnt have Badlands, but Dancing in the Dark > seemed effective enough, even though the dancing ladies sure were thrown > of my my cryptic come on, Courtney shout-out) wearing a flashing shirt > while being cheered on by good friends and being joined on stage by > dancing drunken Asian chicks. I should have been drunk too, but I wasnt. I was impressed by your "Dancing in the Dark". You did well staying on-key and your enthusiasm was infectious, as shown by the Extreme South Denmark Dancers who accompanied your performance. --- Walt

There's always next year Walt? And now you have said it, it MUST be official. Yes folks you heard it here first. Lost Weekend 2011 Walt and Thomas W will be singing a duet! Your own choice of song of course. Dr Bob (Have I just dug myself a tiny hole??) -- My memory's not as sharp as it used to be, and another thing my memory's not as sharp as it used to be.

Sorry, I don't have the requisite flashing shirt. You, on the other hand, are in arrears for one song this year, so you will owe us two songs next Joone. If we add on interest, then one of your songs should include a little dance as well. --- Walt

Did Matt have you under a gag order not to mention he was in town? I would have liked to have seen him & meet his son. Then again, he probably thought I'd be a bad influence on his kid, so maybe it's better I didn't! Cameron |
