From: Nonnymus on 24 Jul 2010 18:12 When we moved here in 2001, one of the earlier places we visited for lunch was the Tommy Rocker"s on Eastern by St. Rose Pky. We found it expensive in comparison to better places like Tee Shots, and the food was mediocre with pretensions of gourmetedness <my word>. Since then, we've visited the place several more times, and each visit merely renewed our first opinion. In a previous post, I mentioned that the first time we met David and Roz Berman was at the Black Mountain Grill on Eastern, which is owned by Tommy Rocker"s ex wife, Donna. While we enjoyed the company and the meal with David and Roz, Black Mountain Restaurant somehow slipped from our sights over the years. Then, we "discovered" it again a few months back and have been going there at least weekly ever since. Today, Mrs. Nonny and I were on Eastern Avenue and decided to give Tommy Rocker"s another try. What we discovered was that the menu and ambiance have been reshuffled a bit, and the place is now probably going to rank in the "fine for when we're in the area," category, placing it in the same category as Shuck's, Red Robin and BJ's Brewery. In anticipation of some friends and good food tonight, we ate a pretty light lunch of Chicago Dog for Mrs. Nonny and a Reuben for me. The dog was excellent, and the Reuben was one of the better I've had in a long, long while. Sides were fries for Mrs. Nonny and Onion Rings for me. Again, we were not disappointed. The fries were absolutely great, fresh, crisp and lightly seasoned. The onion rings were great as well, and served with a dipping sauce. Quantities, speed and price were well within the norm for VP pubs in that area and slightly less than Black Mountain, we felt. TBird still is the lowest priced place in the area, and is another of our favorites. For locals who are in the area, it's well worth visiting, I feel. It's certainly not something a visitor would rent a car to go to, but for folk already in the area desiring a good, fast and well prepared meal that won't break the bank, I heartily recommend it.
