No, it doesn't KEEP the content offline because I've usually been doing something else, 8-) I'm still learning what the iPad can do. Back to travel again, more or less. I like to play with maps. I was in Passau at the end of April and was playing with iPad's map recently and followed the Donau from Passau all the way to the Black Sea to see what the landscape looked like. Yes, I can do that on my laptop, too, but this was just an idle game while I was relaxing and drinking coffee in my recliner. -- Erilar, biblioholic medievalist http://www.mosaictelecom.com/~erilarlo

Whether you use it or not, the web browsing experience for a lot of people includes video and audio content. The ipad can't do that- hence why it's hardly the 'best browsing experience' as apple's marketing claims. > > I use an app for BBC news which is useful as it downloads news stories > > so you can read them online. > > OK, I can see a small need for that, but only if you really can't read > whilst online for some reason. > > In the old order world of being charged by connection time I can see that > people might want to read offline to save connection costs, but with > connections charged by megabytes nowadays that isn't going to make any > difference, or am I missing something? Yes, it's not always possible to connect, you might be roaming abroad (which is still prohibitively expensive) or like me, have an ipod which can only connect to the internet by wifi. And some ipads only use wifi AIUI. -- (*) of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate www.davidhorne.net (email address on website) "[Do you think the world learned anything from the first world war?] No. They never learn." -Harry Patch (1898-2009)
