Carole,

Why would we have bought postcards, mail-order?

We currently have over 2,000 pictures of last years trip, and almost
that many from the Germany trip. They are currently on line for our
friends to enjoy.

Sorry, but I don't think you qualify.

The men showed us a document that they had obtained from one of the
genealogy companies. It was about ten pages of Latin that was used in
the German church records. They showed us how a lot of the records had
the same pattern of phrases too.

I really don't understand why you wouldn't block my posts. If what I
say makes you "cringe with my ignorance".

Sorry, but watching men dancing, holding hands and wearing toutous
makes me snicker.

As they say, Pat, you really need to "get a life".

People who travel with such an attitude are wasting their time and
their money.

My youngest sister was trying to trace a branch in Germany via mail(some
years ago). She had a secret weapon, though: I translated her letters
and the replies she got. For doing live research I would think you'd
need fluency in the written form of the language at least, or a
companion who did. And have you looked at German handwriting a few
generations back? Have fun.
