Hello from Norway.
I am planning to go to Union Island in the Grenadines for 2-3 weeks next
winter, with familiy and small kids.
Planning to stay in Anchorage Yacht Club, as it is situated directly on the
beach. Maybe rent a villa on Palm Island close by for some days also.
Any experiences, advices etc?
I am especially interested in how the beach in front of Anchorage Yacht Club
is.

And maybe anyone can tell me how the beach on the east side of Palm Island
is (that is where the villas are)? Seems on Google Earth that there is quite
a bit of coral or rocks in the water, maybe difficult to swim?

We`re also considering going to Eleuthera in the Bahamas, but we got a
little worried about unstable weather that far north in Dec / Jan. Anyone
been there in the winter?

Otherwise I would appreciate any good advice for a house / cottage / villa
or anything with cooking possibilites, situated directly on a perfect beach
with no big waves, (due to the kids`swimming), anywhere in the Caribbean,
with a max price ca. 400 US dollars per day.
Thanks,
Brynjulf

Hi,

I have some pictures and a trip journal from my one day stay on Union
Island. They probably don't answer your questions, but you can get some
idea of what you will find there.

This is the only place we've stayed in the Grenadines, and we loved it there
even during a damaging (rare for the southern Caribbean).hurricane.
http://www.gembeachresort.com/rooms.htm The units are apartments rather
than villas, but the bay is gorgeous, the surf is gentle, and as far as i
know it's the only hotel on the bay. There is a small supermarket just down
the hill, and an ocean beach is also just a walk away.

If you do happen to end up visiting Grenada, look up a man named Mandoo for
a tour you won't soon forget.

good luck,
Keith

Hi K and thanks for your advice.
It looks absolutely wonderful. But one question: Is all appartments on the
first floor, nor ground floor directly in the sand? You see we are looking
for a place ground floor, so that the kids can run up and down to the beach,
with no staircases, verandas etc.
Their webpage doesn`t say anything about this but it looks like it is the
restaurant that is in the front line in the sand, and not the appartments.
Can you recall this?
Thanks,
Brynjulf

Hi Don.
Thanks for wondeful pictures and good information.
Can you remember; did you go to the beach directly in front of the Anchorage
Yacht Club on Union Island? Any memories on how it was? I am asking of two
reasons; we are travelling with small kids and therefore we will have focus
on swimming and beachlife most of the time, and also because I am very much
a beach-freak myself, always looking for the ultimate perfect beach, with
soft sands, no litter, no sharp coral or rocks etc etc.
