My wife and I have visited France a few times and have always had good
relations. I represented an American company who had a contract with
Thompson CSF and they treated us to a historic traditional dinner in
Paris, which had more courses and wines than I had ever seen. Along
the way, which was several weeks, I mentioned the tradition of
Parisian waiters to be very short and abrupt. I was told that
Parisian waiters were very democratic. They treated all outsiders
poorly. Even other French, from rural areas. They wanted their
regulars, who would tip well, and they did not want outsiders,
wherever they came from. New York is like that also. Nothing to do
with you, or me. They just want to maximize their tips.
