From: Las Vegas Don on 2 Aug 2010 08:21 All of our computers use electricity. How much does your computer add to your electric bill? How would "sleep mode" effect it? How would you figure out your computers effective electrical usage and cost? What are ways of effectively cutting the usage, lowering your costs and possibly extending the life of your computer?? I found this website that may address the previously mentioned issues. There are more out there, I just enjoyed this one. You can apply this information to the coffee maker that has a clock on it, the stove which runs constantly, and all of the other items that are in your home that run without end. Of course, you are not going to run and cut all the earlier mentioned things off, but you need to be informed and aware, right. Some information that will assist you is a good thing, it gives you options. Have a great day, and "dream of Vegas"!! http://michaelbluejay.com/electricity/computers.html Don

Aren't you the guy who tells us that you use a laptop to use the Internet to log in to your remote desktop computer located 2000 miles away, which you would have to leave powered on 24-7 consuming god knows how much electricity, only to log into Google to post to usenet? Yeah, that was you. "informed and aware". "effectively cutting the usage, lowering your costs and possibly extending the life of your computer??". Don... 'do as I say, not as I do' Strevel. I think you make an outstanding point by mentioning the power strip. I use one but just use it to increase the outlet availability. I guess I could use it to cut everything off. The article mentioned 500, almost 600 a year to power a system 24 / 7. There could be some savings there. Good point! :) Don
