Drumming for example. I think that what DFM meant by 'fixed tone' was music that had pitches set roughly around specific frequencies. That's not a universal rule either. > > >The point is that there are _no_ universal rules to music, and you're > >correct also IMO in stating that finer definitions get into questions of > >aesthetics as much as anything else. Except the weather is still boringly nice. I bet Devon was nice over the weekend too. I was about 20 miles away from your beloved Wasdale! I'd like to take the train along the Cumbrian Coast to Carlisle sometime. -- David Horne- http://www.davidhorne.net usenet (at) davidhorne (dot) co (dot) uk http://homepage.mac.com/davidhornecomposer http://soundjunction.org

I'll try to be the devil's advocate. Mxsmanic wrote about "popular music". If one gives an ear to the music that enjoys large popularity worldwide, it's not preposterous to say that it's nearly 100% tonal music. I know only 1 LP of dodecaphonic rock (and I don't think it sold well, either :-) -- remplacez "lesptt" par "laposte" pour me joindre substitute "laposte" for "lesptt" to reach me |
