For a business user, Googling the number will usually work. I went through this after my girlfriend's mobile got stolen. She got a bill afterwards itemizing exactly which numbers the thief called on it. I had to look them up myself and tell the police who they were, they hadn't thought of looking. (The first two numbers he called were the local job centre and a mental health clinic, the latter presumably about his drug problem). ============== j-c ====== @ ====== purr . demon . co . uk ============== Jack Campin: 11 Third St, Newtongrange EH22 4PU, Scotland | tel 0131 660 4760 <http://www.purr.demon.co.uk/jack/> for CD-ROMs and free | fax 0870 0554 975 stuff: Scottish music, food intolerance, & Mac logic fonts | mob 07800 739 557

BTW. Might he not simply have a phone number shown on his cell-phone as having called him, and not want to return the call without determining whether he even KNOWS the caller? When I first got my cell-phone, before I listed it with our National Do Not Call Registry (U.S.), I made the mistake of redialing numbers I didn't recognize. (Why should I use MY cell-phone minutes to listen to someone's advertising spiel?)

I very much doubt it. This number makes the rounds on various joke sites, emails, fora, because it's one of the numbers at Buckingham Palace. For example, someone might receive a text message saying: "Hi iam stuck in London (dont ask!) need to speak to you urgently need a favour can you call me on 02079304832...batt low ask for Elizabeth she will pass you to me...thanks" -- (*) ... of the royal duchy of city south and deansgate http://www.davidhorne.net - real address on website "Abominable, loyal, blind, apparently subservient." The original question did not provide any number to "look up", so I had no way of knowing it was a joke. (Even if he had, your telephone numbering system is so different from ours that no UK phone number is familiar to me.) >
