Very informative post Nonny, well stated.

I plan on looking around a bit at real estate during my Jooone visit;
maybe some other AVLVers will want to swap info?

I'd be looking for a one story with large garage / shop; rent it out
initially, maybe move in down the road after retirement, to do the
"snow bird" thing.

Winters in Portland can be a bit ... soggy.

I personally vetoed one because the listed "4-car garage," would
not have held our van, a pickup and the Smart car. Beware of
listing hype for garage space. Are you a fixer upper type, or do
you want something ready to live in? That's a major hurdle. At
my age, I can do things, but prefer to not do things. That
doesn't mean I won't do things, but just don't prefer to to them.
<VBG>

The home we took to escrow was listed as 4-car (ha), but the
resulting 3 car space was oversized inside to leave me lots of
room for a workbench, table saw, table sander, RAS, planer, and
other things that make it worthwhile to wake up in the morning.
<grin>

One home we visited had a built-in underground shooting range
beneath the pool. It's not off the card for us, but we're
considering it as a second choice. You literally walked down a
stairway by the pool, under a pavilion, into a wine cellar. You
then swiveled a concealed wine rack aside and entered another
little hallway. There, you moved aside a heavy vault-like door to
reveal a 7' tall, 6' wide by 75' long all concrete gallery with
automatic target retriever, pistol rest and great lighting.
Somehow, I doubt if Henderson inspectors know of its existence.
<grin> I loved it and we still might make an offer. The problem
was that the rest of the house wasn't in the best of condition.

There are some cool places out there.

Gary,
I enjoy your sig file. I am try to be a good Christian and feel you
are correct to a degree. Just don't gore my organised superstition,
ok :) Problem is that people take those education stories literal
which does not speak well for their own mind. They are trua and
accurate, but some od rgw follower are stupid lemmings. You might be
surprised to know how much we probobly agree on a few things...damnit!

Would they feel the educational stories in Aesops fables to be the
same. Me thinks not.
