From: Las Vegas Don on 17 Jul 2010 17:07 To lessen the cognitive dissonance that sometimes eminates from this ng I thought it might be great to share some interesting info I read in pc world. We used to fax. We faxed all over the world, and man, did we ever pay for long distance as well. In todays world, with all of the modern services we have, faxing is no longer a requirement, and its free. In todays world we use PDF Files (Portable Document Format). You can scan the document(s) that you would have earlier faxed, and send it as an email attatchment! No trip to the Post Office, no waiting for delivery a week later.... it is there in a few seconds. To create these PDF documents you need a program that will do so. Here is one that is free and shared about in PC World,, August, 2010, page 64 half way down, second column. It is titled "Nitro PDF Reader". Take a look at it and you decide if it meets your desires. It is at www.find.pcworld.com/70181 . It will create and read PDF files quickly, and is free. There are others out there like Cute PDF as well, and others. Create a newsletter / ebook on Vegas, your fave buffet, anything you like...poker, you name it and send it out to others as a PDF file. Scan things that you would have to fax long distance and just...email it instantly. :) There are many ways to achieve this. This is an interesting newsgroup with a lot of unrealised potential. Make something great about Vegas and share it here in AVLV! :) Have a great day, Don

(easily solved with one user change) but what's interesting is Donnie talking about creating a PDF then posts a link to a reader. I'm sure I'm missing something tho. if you want a free program to create documents cutepdf is about as good as it gets. > Denny in Mass -- --tr

Tell us why we shouldn't use that? > Denny in Mass Hi Denny, We have all zoomed past the constant need for a fax machine as the ultimate way to send information around the world. People mistakenly look for "free fax" and "internet fax". They are misunderstanding what they are looking for and missunderstanding what is needed. They are still looking for a way to use the old fax.. What they want is a way to send PDF's in email, free!! You can take any information, stacks of the stuff, and send it to someone across the world without the burden of long distance fees, several sheets running through the machine as one (god I used to hate that) and then waiting in front of the machine as each individual sheet feeds through. "Adobe" is good!! So many use "cute pdf", and there are others. The drawback with some versions of Adobe is that when you or I write an e-book sometimes, in certain versions, there is no way to stop them from forwarding it to their friends. Denny, you are an atty. Lets say you made a very good e-book on plessy/ferguson, a case that changed the world for the better. You sell your ebook but the recipient can forward it for free...not a good thing. You miss sales and your honest work goes unrewarded. If the PDF program that you use allows you to attach (some do it automatically) an authentication code to the link you can send them allowing them to DL the book, but not give it to their friends. Actually, you can set it up so that if they try to forward it they actually forward a predesignated part of the ebook, an advert and pay pal payment option, instead. I have sold e-books for years and love the ability to send it to people over the internet. Anyone here can do it and do so well. It can be recipes, car info, you name it. Our planet has six plus billion people on it. So what if most of them don't want your e- book. You'll need a free program for the cover, but all things in good time. :) Instead of selling legal papers on leases, divorce, funeral pre arrangement, contracts of any nature...just collect your $$$ on PayPal and send it to them. Check out www.e-junkie.com for related info The pcworld mention introduces as....Nitro PDF Reader is the most powerful free PDF ~~~reading and creation too~~~l you can find, performing many tasks usually only available in for-pay PDF tools. As a PDF reader, it's lighting fast. For example, it opened a 174-page graphics-heavy PDF nearly instantly--faster than any other PDF reader I've tried, including FoxIt Reader, Nuance PDF Reader, and Adobe's own PDF reader, among others. It lets you search, zoom in and out, rotate pages, and more, pretty much everything that you'd expect from a PDF reader.. Don I am more concerned about the trolling, the rudeness and meaness. If they can do what they do with all their angst, I can do something upbeat and just as ot. |
