I'm sorry that they told you that, because the pagers will, in fact, work
all through the main lobby upstairs. I wouldn't go outside to the savanna,
but there is plenty in the lobby and even the gift shop that could have kept
you entertained.

Goodness, I could not agree less. I too had heard the rumors of Boma's
decline, but our meal on 9/22 was just as good as any other we've had there.
I look forward to going back next January. I've never been able to eat
there on a Wednesday before, so maybe I'll get to try some dishes that had
not been in the rotation on my earlier visits.

Perhaps it's not as consistently good as in the past, but for one night in
September, it was fabulous as ever.

I was told that it would work at the bar (upstairs) and around the
waiting area but not outside the building. The metal inside the walls
shields the signal and makes the pager useless outside. I wanted to sit
at pool, walk around the savanna area, or at least sit at the Maya
dining area. It seems that a few signal repeaters throughout the
building would allow guests to enjoy the resort (and not crowd the
waiting area). Given the popularity of text messaging, it might be
better to send a SMS to the guest instead of using the antiquated pagers.

I've never had a bad meal at the Boma and that's why I tried to return.
The quality probably depends on the day of the week and the time of day
(maybe later meals are worse). That Saturday night was setting up to be
a miserable experience. It looked overly crowded and noisy. There was
a consistent line at the buffet and every table was taken. I didn't
feel disappointed when we left early (I was actually relieved).

Glad to hear that. I've had two mediocre meals there and gave up. If I
had friends that wanted to meet there, I'd give it another try. But I
don't think I'd go out of my way to book a meal there again, just for
myself.

If I was staying at AKL again, the falafel pita from the Mara was so
freaking good, I'd just eat that!
