Finalized our August househunting and Star Trek Convention trip. What's
going on first week of August that I should know about? Shows, buffets,
special offers? Thanks as usual!

Did you see that Goldstar has discount Star Trek passes? With fees, they're
$19.50-$22.50 depending on day.

I was just browsing the Star Trek convention site. Wow, admission tickets are
just the beginning. If you want autographs or photo ops (each sold
separately), these can run into hundreds of dollars. And what's the deal with
that snootybucket Patrick Stewart? For the price of a photo just with him
($199), you can get your picture taken with Shatner and Nimoy together!

Anyway, not sure what else you're interested in, but if you're house-hunting
it sounds like you'll have a car. A couple of my off-Strip dining favorites
are Maple Tree and the M Resort buffet. Maple Tree serves breakfast and
lunch; the Sugarhouse Sampler, the Monte Cristo and the New England Benny are
popular choices. The M's lunch buffet is an excellent value at $15, and the
drive down there on I-15 is usually clear-sailing south of Mandalay Bay. The
dessert section, especially the ice creams and sorbets, is outstanding.

Here's a $30 Maple Tree voucher for $17, although with just two people you may
be hard-pressed to spend $30.

On the Strip, the Palm restaurant bar has $10-12 appetizers reduced to $3.50
in late afternoon and late evening, Mon-Fri. I liked the Kobe beef sliders
and the cheese steak plates. The Palm is in the Forum Shops just steps from
the casino.

By everyone in here's judgment actually.
Your lack of Las Vegas knowledge is astounding if you have really lived
there for 33 years.
