From: Gwen on 10 Jan 2010 12:54 How much does it cost to 'sign up' for Photopass, and to get the CD with all of your pictures? Is it worthwhile? Thanks, Gwen

It costs nothing to sign up, or to get your picture taken as much as you wish. You only pay if you buy a picture, either as a CD or a print, later. Photopass can be fun. There are Photopass photographers all over the parks and in the luxury resorts. The first time you ask one to take your picture, they give you a card. When you take pictures with other Photopass photographers you give them the same card and they swipe it. Later, either at Disney or at home, you can see all your photos associated with the number on the card. You can buy pictures one at a time. On our last visit we only wanted one good picture. We took a lot of Photopass pictures during a week's time, and at the end of the week picked the best one, purchased it, and had it printed in a large size before we went home. Consult the Disney Web site (look for Photopass) for current prices. Last time I looked the CD was close to $100. Many people think the CD is worthwhile. Most of the photographers do a good job, and you will probably have many nice pictures on that CD. We have always found the Photopass cast members friendly, helpful, and wanting to take the best photo they can. They pay attention to each guest rather than rushing through the line. Occasionally you will see a line waiting; when we see that we usually just come back to that location at a different time. Usually there is little or no wait. Some of the rides take your picture, but (with maybe a few exceptions?) they are not tied into Photopass. Many people have suggested that the ride pictures also be on the Photopass CD. I don't know why Disney hasn't done that yet. If you want to buy a picture taken on a ride, you do that at the counter on your way out of the ride. -- Glenn Holliday holliday(a)acm.org

If you don't like the photos, you don't pay anything. The CD currently runs about $150.00, though there are some $50.00 off deals - but you must sign up before you go. (I got one through DVC, but I think there is also a deal if you purchase a Disney "package".) At least in my case, I just got a coupon code, and was still under no obligation to buy. A couple of years ago, I was able to get a "pre-pay" deal, for ordering before the trip. In that case, I did have to pay in advance, but as far as I know, they aren't offering anything like that at the moment. I've bought two of these CD's, and for me, they've been worth every penny. First, you don't just get a copy of the pictures - you get full rights to edit and print, copy and re-print them to your heart's content (which is great if you're a scrapbooker!). Don't buy the CD at WDW - wait until you get home. You can log onto the website and add borders to the photos - as many as you want. There is no limit to the number of photos you can get on a CD. (Even if they can't fit it on one CD, the price is still the same.) You can turn 20 photos into 100 or more, by adding borders, and sometimes things like character signatures. All of these will be included on your disc. Also, some of the photographers will do special "tricks". As far as I know, this is just sort of "luck of the draw", so the more photos you have taken, the better chance you have for something creative. (For instance, we have one from a couple of years ago where hubby and I are "cupping" our hands, and when we got the photo, Tinker Bell magically appeared in our hands.) The biggest reason for me to buy the disc, though, was simply because after 16 trips to WDW, 99% of the photos I have of my husband and me together are from those two discs. We're both not very good about asking people to take our picture (we're bashful), and hubby just plain doesn't like having his picture taken... but if I drag him in front of a photog and hand them my card, he'll usually suffer through it. :-) -- Kitty (TDC Bashful) remove "whiskers" to e-mail

Yes - this has only happened for us once. At Studios, near the Hat, we got Stitch digging through the pavement in a picture. -- Glenn Holliday holliday(a)acm.org
