Next: NEED IDEAS - LONDON TRIP
From: a.spencer3 on 10 Apr 2008 06:23 Sorry if this is a duplicate - system went haywire when sending previous reply: Apologies - I came late to this and you've already had much advice! We've been going to Turkey for many years, mainly for the historical sights, so from that inclination: You could EASILY spend a further week in Istanbul and environs, there's so much there. This could include Troy and the Dardanelles WWI sights. You could probably also get to the interesting older capital of Bursa. That's the 'most seeing, least travelling' option. Nothing in Ankara. If you want to base in that area, then several days are easily enjoyed, instead, in Cappodocia - it's a relatively large region and, as well as the obvious, can also encompass Silk Road caravanserai & volcanic scenery. Kusadasi is the best base by far for Ephesus - which is probably the first 'must see' after Istanbul. There are numerous other good sites near Kusadasi - Pergamon, Miletus, Didyma, Pirene (our favourite). Pamukkale is also possible in a day trip from Kusadasi. It's an interesting sight but over-rated, I think. My strong advice would be to base in Kusadasi for the second week and do the many things possible from there. Surreyman

Istanbul has enough to offer you for a week, but I personally get sick of touring a city after a few days and want to chill out somewhere. Goreme is ideal for this because it's chilled out and really, really, really beautiful. We hired a couple of scooters and went around checking out all the crazy stuff. 3 days there would be good. -- --- DFM - http://www.deepfriedmars.com --- --

Availability in such a short notice can be an issue.

I know that it can get rather cool, but it's a possibility for a holiday trip this year. -- dgs |
