Then she would be happy out there with the sage and the wind.

What the article fails to mention is the reason that Springer was
evicted from the land: he didn't own it. He just built on government
owned land, and for many years kept the business going on land that
wasn't his. It really is worth going to at least once.
Now I'm thinking that I should put together a list of the interesting
places off the 15 between Barstow and Las Vegas. There's a lot of
history out there that you can't appreciate driving by at 70+mph, and
need to know where it is.

That would be cool, 'cause in the zillion times I zipped past Zzyzx, I
just figured it was a turn around rand nothing else. And I love
abandoned towns and buildings etc.
I'm tempted to drive out there before waiting till my next trip to
Cal. It would be fun with passengers on my next trip to suddenly turn
off onto it and say "I have a feeling there's something out here.
Trust me...."

Prop Bets for Fun, Pleasure, and Profit:

From the Zzyzx Road exit / overpass to the Valet at the Golden Nugget
it is exactly 100 Miles, almost to the 10th!!

(assuming I-15 North thru the Spaghetti Bowl, Downtown Exit onto
Casino Center Drive).

Fun bet to make with your passengers - been fairly profitable for
me :-)

Funny that I read this article tonight....

I'll be passing Zzyzx Road around 5:30PM on this Tuesday the 10th.
Every time I pass that sign I can't stop saying it out loud: "ZZYZX!
ZZYZX!" Just because it sounds fun, and by that time I'm borderline
catatonic from driving through the desert for so long.

And tonight, I found myself looking at Zzyzx for the first time on
Google Earth. Never knew that road led to a real place. I'm tempted
to take a detour and take a peek at it, but I'll be taking my friend
to Vega for his birthday and he HATES detours. Only stops for gas are
acceptable. Soooooo...I guess it'll have to wait until I pass by
alone.
