And would I be able to buy my passes and have free dining included? I got a AAA rate today of $1443.30 for a room for 2. (It would be a big cheaper for me because I'll be alone.) Oddly enough, this was the same rate quote to me by Small World Travel to the penny. I've never rented points and kind of afraid to do it.

Patty, you cannot get free dining in any way, shape or form using DVC points. Since the FD promotion requires you to buy a package (room @ rack rate and tickets) to get FD, the use of DVC points by anyone means they are automatically unable to get any special packages. You are allowed to pay for the dining plan when you use DVC points though. And a ticket purchase is not required. And just an FYI... If you were to book a DVC room with a ticket purchase and pay cash, you could get the FD plan since Disney treats a cash reservation at DVC the same as it does at any of the other resorts. The down side of this is that rack rate for a studio is about $300-$400/night, fluctuations due to seasonal pricing. Jack -- My email address on the header is a non-monitored spam catching account. You can't rent DVC points and get any of the dining promotions, kids stay free, etc. You aren't buying the room from Disney, you're buying it from the DVC owner. You can add a dining plan and DME, you have to let the DVC owner know you want that added to the reservation. I believe you have to purchase park tickets separately at the ticket booths at the parks or Downtown Disney, and cannot have them combined onto your room key, but that may have changed over the past few years. Renting used to be great but I think the atmosphere around it has changed since the big marketing push when Saratoga Springs was built. Disney is doing everything they can to make sure the benefit of renting points from DVC owners is undermined - they want you to have to buy your room directly from them. ~Amanda

Other than Free Dining not being available (which I can understand), what else are they doing to discourage renting points?

Go to http://www.disboards.com/forumdisplay.php?f=29 and check out what's available. We rent all the time and have had good luck. There are cautions to take but the risk is minimal. Regulars there have many posts $500 from $1400 leaves $900 for tickets and food. We never tried the Disney Dining and prefer to wing it as we go. Goto http://www.mousesavers.com/wdwticketprices.html for pass prices 4 Day passes $239.63 5 Day passes $242.82
