You ever read this?

http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/k/stuart-m-kaminsky/you-bet-your-life.htm

Stewart Kaminsky has written a series of detective novels featuring a
hero who has clients from real life ranging from Errol Flynn to Albert
Einstein. The third novel (they get old after awhile) has the mob in
Chicago demanding Chico Marx pay back the $10,000 he lost there
gambling. Groucho would pay it, but Chico swears he was never there!
Enter Toby Peters, slightly down on the heels private eye to
investigate the case. (I wonder if he's ever considered doing one with
Blackstone?)

Steve Martin had a skit on SNL dealing with the fact that in Midevial
(sp) times, doctors were also barbers. And the basic form of medicine
was to bleed a pint or two out of the patient.

ORDERLY: Doctor, this man is suffering from multiple stab wounds!

STEVE: OK, bleed him.

PATIENT: But I'm already bleeding!

STEVE: Now, who's the barber here?

A believable plot! Trivia from 'A Day at the Races':

>The "Grand Steeplechase" sequence at the end had to be shot twice.
>Both times a crew member persuaded Chico Marx to gamble on it and
>not only to bet on the outcome of a rigged non-race, but to bet on a
>horse other than the one scripted to win. Chico, all his life an avid
>gambler, could offer as excuse only, "The odds were 20 to one."
