I can't help with the buses, but I seem to remember someone here
who stayed at the Hilton with his/her daughter, and she remarked,
"It's not a Disney hotel."

(That remark somehow took up valuable brain cells which might
have been better used elsewhere...)

While it has been a while since I stayed there, they do have EMH
availability. It is more of a Hilton hotel than it would be a Disney hotel
but that is not necessarily a bad thing. I enjoyed the rooms and other
amenities.

As for transportation, directly from their web site:

The Hilton in the WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort offers Disney's EXTRA MAGIC
HOURS and is located directly across from Downtown Disney in Lake Buena
Vista, FL. Hotel guests will enjoy exceptional facilities at our Disney
hotel, AAA's longest-running three Diamond Resort in Central Florida. Our
official Walt Disney World hotel is only steps away from some of the most
popular amenities and attractions, including:

Extra Magic Hours - Each day one of the theme parks is open an hour early or
stays open up to three extra hours in the evening.
Complimentary shuttle service to Disney theme parks
Disney's Magic Kingdom
Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park
Disney's Hollywood StudiosT
Disney's Epcot
Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park
Downtown Disney Marketplace
Downtown Disney Westside

They used to use Mear's transport buses with a Disney logo on them which
went to all the hotels in the Downtown Disney area but again, I don't know
what they use now.

Nearest I can find out is they seem to run the buses every half hour.
Not necessarily a deal breaker. Just trying to decide if staying
there over the All-Stars for three nights is worth the $100
difference, especially with the hassle of changing resorts for the
last two nights. This is a shoestring trip, just done because I have
an AP and my daughter has to be back at the collge that week...

Here's hoping the other person who initially said she'd go with me
does get the time off, then all of it's a moot point anyway....

I might. If you want to get to a *specific* resort, you're going to need to
talk to one of the bus controllers to make that happen. (Which is handy if
you get to Animal Kingdom first thing in the morning and remember six
minutes later that you left something at your resort and need to go back,
not that I would have ever done that.)

But if your goal is to get to a park, you can do that from *any* resort, so
just get on the bus and if the driver asks where you're headed, tell him you
need to get to [insert park name here] from whatever resort he's headed to,
then switch buses there. If he presses you further, just exasperatedly
mumble something that includes the phrases "too early for shopping" and "big
fight" and "$600 worth of vinylmation keychains" and the conversation will
probably end. (Not that I would have ever done anything like that.)

My coffee almost reversed flow on that one... :-)
