Don't take a Taxi from your home to the airport or anywhere else
because the cabbie will see your luggage and know you are leaving
town.Leave your doors open. When buglars see the doors open they will
think someone is home and will go somewhere else to break in. Ronald

You forgot the 21st Century stuff. . .don't announce a Las Vegas (or
wherever) vacation on your Facebook page, Twitter, MySpace, etc. until
you get back home. It's just an announcement to the thieves to come
and get it!
